What is Welsh & Jefferies?

Welsh & Jefferies is a tailoring shop on Eton High Street that is well known among Old Etonians. It is one of the suppliers of School Dress, the formal uniform worn by boys at Eton College.

History

The business was run for 34 years by Elie Kazan, who joined in 1988 when the shop was in the hands of his wife Suzanne's father. Her father had acquired the lease and ran a wholesale cloth business from the rear of the premises. Kazan trained under earlier Eton High Street tailors, and at the time he joined the shop did not yet make School Dress. That side of the business grew gradually, with encouragement from then Head Master Eric Anderson. When Kazan retired at the end of 2022, his son Tuffy took over the shop.
