Who is Craig Green?
Craig Green was born in London in 1986. He is the founder and designer of the menswear label Craig Green, known for workwear and uniform references, layered construction and pieces that sit between clothing and sculpture. His Worker Jacket has become one of the label's signature products.
Career
Green studied at Central Saint Martins, completing a BA in fashion design with print in 2010 and an MA in fashion in 2012 under Professor Louise Wilson. He founded his label in 2012 and made his debut in 2013 through Fashion East's MAN initiative, a London platform for emerging menswear designers.
His recognition grew quickly. Awards include Emerging Menswear Designer at the British Fashion Awards in 2014, the BFC and GQ Designer Menswear Fund in 2016, and British Menswear Designer of the Year at The Fashion Awards in 2016, 2017 and 2018. He was appointed MBE in 2022 for services to fashion.
In August 2023 the University of Applied Arts Vienna announced Green as its professor of fashion design, a post he took up in October 2023. The Vienna fashion department is known for appointing internationally recognised designers to lead it. For spring and summer 2026 he presented his collection in Paris.
Influence on the fashion business
Green has become a reference for contemporary British menswear and for the way independent designers work with larger partners. Notable aspects include:
- Collaborations with Adidas Originals, Moncler, Fred Perry, Eastpak, Champion and Ecco
- Costume work for the film Alien: Covenant in 2017
- Exhibition of his work at major museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art
- A teaching role shaping the next generation of designers
Green's MA graduation collection won the L'Oréal Professionnel Talent Award, an early sign of the attention his work would attract. His collections, which explore uniform and utility, have helped define a strand of contemporary menswear that treats clothing as both functional and ceremonial.
Why it matters
Craig Green's career shows how an independent label can build global recognition through a distinctive design language and selective collaborations rather than rapid expansion. His teaching role in Vienna also places him among the designers influencing how fashion education prepares new talent for the industry.
