Who is Bruno Pavlovsky?

Bruno Pavlovsky is one of the most senior executives in French luxury. He leads the fashion business of Chanel, the privately owned house, and represents the wider Paris fashion industry as president of the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode (FHCM). That combination places him at the centre of both a leading brand and the institutions of the Paris fashion calendar.

Career

Pavlovsky studied at the Bordeaux École Supérieure de Commerce and holds an MBA from Harvard Business School. He started his career at Deloitte in 1987 and joined Chanel in 1990. He has spent his career at the house since then and today serves as President of Chanel SAS and President of Chanel's Fashion Activities.

He is also president of 19M, the hub for fashion and decoration crafts that Chanel created in 2021 to bring together specialist ateliers. Since June 2020 he has been an independent director on the board of the hotel group Accor, and he has held board roles at the Comité Colbert, the Institut Français de la Mode and Rémy Cointreau.

Influence on the fashion business

In 2022 Pavlovsky was elected president of the FHCM, the trade association founded in 1973 that manages the official Paris Fashion Week and Haute Couture Week calendars. He has since been re-elected, with Pascal Morand leading the federation's executive committee. In this role he influences:

  • Which houses join the official Paris calendars
  • How Paris positions itself against other fashion capitals
  • Support for craftsmanship and the couture ecosystem
  • The industry's dialogue with French public authorities

Pavlovsky's board roles at the Comité Colbert, which represents French luxury houses, and at the Institut Français de la Mode, the leading French fashion school, extend his influence into the promotion of French luxury abroad and the training of the next generation of fashion professionals.

Why it matters

Paris remains the most important fashion capital for luxury, and the FHCM controls access to its most prestigious calendars. Pavlovsky's dual role, leading the fashion business of one of the largest independent luxury houses while presiding over the federation, gives him unusual influence over how the industry protects craftsmanship, organises its shows and responds to economic and creative change. His work with 19M also reflects a strategic priority across luxury: securing specialist suppliers and know how as a competitive advantage.
