What is 2NDDAY?
2NDDAY is a womenswear line created in 2011 by the Danish fashion company DAY Birger et Mikkelsen. It was conceived as an alternative to the company's main line, with its own distinct handwriting.
History
Its parent company was founded in 1997 by Malene Birger and Keld Mikkelsen, with the women's collection debuting in 1998. Birger left in 2002 and Mikkelsen continued to run the business. In 2008 shares were sold to Icelandic investors, and Mikkelsen bought them back in 2012. Within this structure, the company built several lines:
- 2NDDAY, launched in 2011
- DAY accessories, launched in 2014
2NDDAY was nominated for the Danish fashion award Guldknappen.
Products and positioning
The line is defined by a tailored look offered in many colours, giving it a polished yet playful identity distinct from the main DAY collection.
Distribution
2NDDAY is sold through fashion retailers and online platforms, including the Nordic marketplace Boozt.
Why it matters
2NDDAY shows how an established Danish design house extended its reach with a second line that kept a strong identity of its own.
