What is Garrick?
Garrick is an independent English watch brand with its workshop in Norfolk. Founded by David Brailsford, it produces hand-finished mechanical watches, sourcing cases, dials and hands from British suppliers or making them in house.
History
The brand's first model, the Shaftesbury, featured an in-house free sprung balance. Early models used vintage new old stock Unitas movements that Garrick modified, replacing some parts with its own components. The brand later developed the Calibre UT-G01, a hand-wound movement created with watchmaker Andreas Strehler and Uhr Teil AG.
Products and positioning
- Shaftesbury, the brand's first model
- Norfolk, a 42mm model
- Portsmouth, a hand-wound model with a prominent balance bridge
- The S3 and S4 series
The UT-G01 movement runs at 18,000 vibrations per hour with a 44-hour power reserve and a balance made from Sircumet alloy. For this calibre, Uhr Teil AG produces many movement parts while Garrick finishes components and handles assembly and regulation in Norfolk. Engraved dials and bespoke dial work are a feature of the range.
Why it matters
Garrick is part of a small group of independent makers reviving serious mechanical watchmaking in Britain, combining domestic finishing with specialist Swiss collaboration.
