What is KITX?
KITX is the label of Australian designer Kit Willow, who previously founded the Willow label. It describes itself as an Australian luxury designer fashion brand created with sustainable materials.
History
After leaving Willow, Kit Willow spent two years researching materials and visiting makers before launching KITX. The first collection reached Australian stores in July 2015.
Products and positioning
The label focuses on tailoring, corsetry and silk drapery, and its first collection also included leather footwear, accessories and jewellery. Materials have included:
- Organic cotton, hemp and ethically produced Tencel
- Hand-woven silk
- Corset fabric made from plastic bags recovered from the sea and zips from recycled bottles
- Jewellery using reclaimed water buffalo horn and used bullet casings from Cambodia
Distribution
KITX sells through its own website and a Sydney boutique. It also runs KITXCHANGE, a resale programme where customers can buy preloved pieces or sell their own.
Why it matters
KITX was an early Australian example of a designer applying luxury positioning to a fully sustainability led material strategy, later extended into resale.
