What is nudnik?

nudnik is a Canadian childrenswear label based in Toronto, founded by twin sisters Lindsay and Alexandra Lorusso. The sisters grew up around waste management, as their father co-founded the company Wasteco, and they built nudnik around giving discarded textiles a second life.

Products and positioning

The brand makes upcycled children's clothing. Fabric comes from waste management and used clothing distribution centres, material that would otherwise end up in landfill, so no new textiles are needed. Designs use patchwork or colour blocking with raw edges, and local artists create original prints.

  • Clothing for babies and young children
  • Patchwork and colour blocked designs
  • Original prints by local artists

History

In its early phase, nudnik was accepted into the Joe Fresh Centre for Fashion Innovation, a programme run with Ryerson University that supports Canadian fashion start-ups with mentoring. Production is local, with the goal of manufacturing everything in Canada.

Why it matters

Children outgrow clothes quickly, which makes the category a natural fit for circular models. nudnik shows how textile waste streams can be turned into a design led product line with local production.
