What is Reiss?

Reiss is a London-based fashion brand offering polished tailoring, workwear and occasion wear for women and men, together with accessories, a children's range and gifting. It is known for sharp, modern British design at a premium price point.

History

Reiss was founded by David Reiss and opened its first store in 1971 on Bishopsgate in the City of London, selling men's tailoring. The company set up an in-house design team in 1997, expanded across the UK and Ireland, and launched its first womenswear collection in 2000. Its first international store opened in New York in 2005, and Reiss.com followed in 2007, the same year the brand moved into its award-winning headquarters on Picton Place in London.

Next plc became an investor in 2021 and has since increased its holding. According to Next's half-year results to July 2026, it owns 74% of Reiss, which continues to be run as an independent business.

Products and positioning

Reiss sits in the premium contemporary segment. Its offer focuses on:

  • Suits, blazers and tailored separates
  • Dresses and occasion wear
  • Knitwear, shirts and outerwear
  • Shoes, bags and accessories
  • A children's range and gifting

Business model and distribution

The brand operates more than 284 locations across 31 international markets, combining its own stores with concessions in department stores and franchise partners. Partnerships with Bloomingdale's in the US and De Bijenkorf in the Netherlands began in 2012, its first Dubai store opened in 2022, and Macy's and Dillard's were added in 2025. Reiss is also sold as a third-party brand on the Next website and app.

Why it matters

Reiss is one of the strongest British brands in premium workwear and a key part of Next's strategy of taking stakes in other fashion businesses. Its growth through department store partners, franchising and Next's online platform shows how a premium brand can scale internationally while remaining operationally independent.
