What is Swaine London?
Swaine London is a British luxury goods maker and retailer, known until 2022 as Swaine Adeney Brigg. It is owned by the French Chargeurs Group, and its subsidiaries include the umbrella maker Brigg and the hatter Herbert Johnson.
History
The company traces its origins to a Piccadilly whip manufactory dating to around 1760, which whip-maker James Swaine bought in 1798. Trading as Swaine & Adeney from 1848, it acquired J. Köhler & Son in 1907 and G. & J. Zair in 1927, then merged with umbrella maker Thomas Brigg & Sons in 1943. It became Swaine Adeney Brigg in 1990, acquired Herbert Johnson in 1996 and took the name Swaine London in 2022. The firm received royal warrants from George III onwards, first for carriage riding whips.
