What is Tom Davies?
Tom Davies is a London eyewear label built around made to measure frames. Its founder describes three guiding principles: the finest materials, the finest craftsmanship and the finest service.
History
Tom Davies worked in product design in Hong Kong and China, where he developed an interest in eyewear, before returning to London in 2002 to launch his own brand. Production initially took place in China, where he opened a factory in 2008. In 2017 manufacturing moved to a factory in West London.
Products and positioning
The brand makes optical frames and sunglasses in materials including cotton acetate, titanium, natural horn and precious metals. A bespoke service is offered on all frames, and a Made To Order service launched in 2016 allows custom details such as laser engraved names on the temples. Its frames have been worn in films including Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Allied and Cruella.
Distribution
Tom Davies frames are sold through independent opticians in more than 20 countries. The company also runs boutique opticians in central London, the first of which opened in Sloane Square in 2013, together with an online shop.
Why it matters
Tom Davies is an example of a design led eyewear brand that combines wholesale to opticians with personalised, made to measure production in the UK.
