What is Zara Home?
Zara Home is a home furnishings and decoration retailer owned by Inditex, the Spanish group behind Zara. It applies Inditex's fashion retail methods, including frequent new collections and a tightly managed supply chain, to the home category. The brand is headquartered in A Coruña, Galicia.
History
Inditex opened the first Zara Home store in Marbella in August 2003 and had 26 stores by the end of that year. Zara Home Kids, a children's line, followed in 2005, and the first French store opened in 2006. In 2007 Zara Home became the first Inditex brand to sell online, initially in 13 European countries. It opened its first eco-efficient store in A Coruña in 2012 and a flagship on the Champs-Élysées in Paris in 2013. By 2016 it was Inditex's fastest-growing brand, with 552 stores worldwide. After 2020 the store count began to fall as the group consolidated into larger shops and online.
Products and positioning
About 70 percent of the range is textiles, including bedding, bath linen and curtains, complemented by tableware, furniture, home accessories, sleepwear and bathroom cosmetics. Styles range from contemporary and classic to ethnic and minimalist. Prices sit in the mid-market, giving customers fashion-led homeware at accessible prices.
Business model and distribution
Zara Home had 391 stores in 67 countries as of January 2025. Like other Inditex brands it relies on frequent collection updates and shared group logistics. Distribution covers:
- Own stores, including standalone shops and spaces in larger Zara stores.
- Franchised stores in selected markets.
- Online sales, which the brand pioneered within Inditex.
Zara Home's sales were reported at 775 million euros in 2016 and 830 million euros in 2018.
Why it matters
Zara Home shows how a fashion retailer can transfer its operating model into an adjacent category. Its early move online in 2007 made it a test bed for e-commerce within Inditex, and its reliance on textiles links it closely to the group's existing sourcing base. It also competes directly with H&M Home and specialist homeware retailers.
