Who is Jeremy Scott?
Jeremy Scott is an American fashion designer, born in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1975. He is best known for collections that mix high fashion with the imagery of fast food, cartoons, logos and celebrity culture, and for his decade as creative director of the Italian house Moschino. He continues to own and design his eponymous label.
Career
Scott studied fashion design at the Pratt Institute in New York, graduating in 1996, and moved to Paris, where he launched his own label in 1997. His provocative shows built a following in fashion and music circles.
In 2002 he began working with Adidas, and from 2008 a larger partnership with Adidas Originals produced some of his best-known pieces, including sneakers with wings and teddy bear details. These products became collector's items and demonstrated the commercial power of designer and sportswear collaborations.
In October 2013 he was appointed creative director of Moschino, the house founded by Franco Moschino. His tenure was built on humour, logos and spectacle. He left Moschino, which belongs to the Italian group Aeffe, in March 2023 after almost ten years; Adrian Appiolaza became the house's creative director in 2024. A 2015 documentary, Jeremy Scott: The People's Designer, traced his career.
His Adidas Originals designs, such as the JS Wings sneakers and the JS Bears models, became some of the most recognisable products of the collaboration era. Under his own label he also explored themes from digital life: his Fall 2012 collection used printed cursor hands and 1990s computer screen graphics, and a later collection played on the internet generation's fixation on two-dimensional screens.
Influence on the fashion business
Scott was early to understand how fashion images circulate online. His work at Moschino was designed to be instantly recognisable and shareable, and several collections referenced digital culture directly, from computer cursors to screen-based illusions. His influence can be seen in:
- The rise of logo-heavy, meme-friendly luxury
- Designer collaborations with sportswear brands
- Close relationships with pop stars as brand amplifiers
- Capsule and licensed products that reach beyond the runway
At Moschino he revived the founder's irreverent spirit for a social media era, raising the brand's visibility with younger consumers.
Why it matters
Jeremy Scott's career shows how humour, pop culture and celebrity can be turned into a coherent brand strategy. His Moschino years in particular are a reference point for how a heritage house can use spectacle and viral imagery to stay relevant.
