Who is Massimo Ferretti?

Massimo Ferretti is the chairman of Aeffe S.p.A., a fashion and luxury goods holding company whose brands include Alberta Ferretti, Moschino and Pollini. Aeffe's corporate governance report describes him as having always promoted the family name and as principally responsible, together with Alberta Ferretti, for the group's growth strategy and the creation of the Aeffe Group.

Career

The business that became Aeffe began in 1972, when Alberta Ferretti started her company as a sole proprietorship. It was formalised as Faar s.r.l. in 1988 and became Aeffe S.p.A. in 1990. Alongside its own label, the group developed production for other designers, most notably Moschino.

  • 1983: Aeffe begins producing Franco Moschino's Moschino Couture line under licence
  • 2000: takes control of the footwear and leather goods brand Pollini, becoming sole shareholder in 2011
  • 2021: acquires full control of Moschino
  • 2023: reappointed chairman at the April shareholders' meeting, with the broadest powers of ordinary and extraordinary administration
  • 2024: Aeffe sells the Moschino fragrance and cosmetics business to Euroitalia for 98 million euros

Influence on the fashion business

Aeffe is an example of the Italian model in which a family controlled company owns its own brands and also manufactures for others. Each Aeffe brand works with dedicated teams for prototyping, production, quality control and distribution through agents, distributors, franchising and directly operated stores. Ferretti's role has centred on the group's growth strategy, while his sister has led the creative side of the namesake brand. The 2025 governance report lists Alberta Ferretti as executive deputy chairman and Simone Badioli as chief executive.

The family controls the group through Fratelli Ferretti Holding, which is jointly owned by companies belonging to Massimo and Alberta Ferretti. The step by step acquisition of Moschino, from licensee in 1983 to full owner in 2021, is the most significant transaction of the group's history and turned Aeffe into the owner of one of Italy's best known fashion brands.

Why it matters

Ferretti represents a generation of Italian entrepreneurs who built mid sized fashion groups on the strength of manufacturing know how and long term brand partnerships. As the industry consolidates and smaller groups face pressure from global conglomerates, the strategic choices of family led companies such as Aeffe are an important indicator for the future of independent Italian fashion.
