Who is Toni Ruiz?
Toni Ruiz is the chairman and chief executive officer of Mango, the Spanish fashion group founded in Barcelona by Isak Andic. He has led the company as CEO since March 2020 and has also chaired its board since January 2025. He is widely regarded as the executive who professionalised Mango's management and steered it through a period of strong growth after the pandemic.
Career
Ruiz studied economics at the University of Barcelona and holds a master's degree in economics and business management from IESE Business School. He built the first part of his career in retail finance at Leroy Merlin España, part of the French Adeo group, where he held a number of financial management and control positions and later sat on the boards of Leroy Merlin and Alcampo.
He joined Mango in 2015 as chief financial officer. In 2018 he was promoted to general manager, and in March 2020 he became chief executive. On 23 January 2025 the board of Punto Fa, Mango's parent company, unanimously appointed him chairman while he kept the CEO role. Jonathan Andic, son of the founder, became vice chairman at the same time, and the board granted Ruiz a 5% shareholding in the company.
Influence on the fashion business
Under Ruiz, Mango has pursued a strategic roadmap known as Plan 4E for 2024 to 2026, which aims to take the group's turnover to 4 billion euros by the end of 2026. Mango closed 2025 with record turnover of 3.77 billion euros, up 13 per cent, and net profit of 242 million euros; in the first half of 2026 sales rose 7.2 per cent to 1.85 billion euros. The strategy combines store network expansion, investment in technology and logistics capacity, and a stronger position in markets such as the United States.
At the group's results presentation in March 2025, its first major financial briefing since the founder's death, Ruiz told journalists that "Mango is stronger than ever", adding that the company had a clear roadmap and ambitious goals. Rather than responding to US tariffs mainly through price increases, Mango said it intended to widen its premium product offer.
- Governance: continued the professionalisation of Mango's corporate governance begun under Isak Andic.
- Growth: leads the Plan 4E strategy with a turnover target of 4 billion euros by the end of 2026.
- Recognition: named Business Leader of the Year 2024 by the Spain-US Chamber of Commerce in New York.
Why it matters
Ruiz is one of the few non-family executives to lead a major family-founded European fashion group at both board and management level. His dual role makes him the central decision maker at Mango, a mid-market brand that competes directly with Inditex and H&M across Europe and increasingly in North America. For the wider industry, Mango under Ruiz is a test case of how a founder-led fashion company can transition to professional leadership while keeping family ownership, and of whether a disciplined, finance-led management style can deliver sustained growth in a highly competitive segment of the market.
