What is Mango?
Mango is one of Europe's largest fashion retailers and, unlike Inditex or H&M, a privately held, family-owned company. It is based in Palau-solità i Plegamans near Barcelona, where its corporate campus is located. Toni Ruiz, chief executive since 2020, also became chairman in January 2025 after the death of founder Isak Andic in December 2024. The Andic family remains the owner.
History
Isak Andic and his brother Nahman, who had emigrated from Turkey to Barcelona, opened the first Mango store on Passeig de Gràcia in Barcelona in 1984, having previously sold clothing wholesale. The brand expanded across Spain and then internationally from the 1990s, largely through franchising. It launched a men's line in 2008, renamed Mango Man in 2014, the plus-size line Violeta in 2014 and Mango Home in 2022. In 2022 it handed its Russian stores to a local franchisee after suspending direct operations.
Products and positioning
Mango's core is womenswear with a Mediterranean, urban aesthetic, positioned slightly above the mass-market leaders on design and price. Alongside Mango Woman it sells Mango Man, Mango Kids, Mango Teen and Mango Home.
Business model and distribution
By the end of 2025 Mango had nearly 3,000 points of sale in more than 120 markets, combining own stores, franchise stores and shop-in-shops, plus online sales in more than 120 markets. Revenue reached 3.77 billion euros in 2025, up 13 percent, with net profit of 242 million euros. The United States is one of its main expansion markets.
Mango and technology
Mango describes a technological ecosystem that links its physical and online stores and provides tools to analyse customer data, supported by its loyalty programme Mango likes you. The company has a dedicated chief information technology officer on its management committee.
Why it matters
Mango is a rare example of a large, international fashion retailer that remains family-owned and unlisted. Its reliance on franchising for international growth, combined with record sales in 2024 and 2025, makes it an important benchmark for how mid-market fashion brands scale across many markets without owning every store.
