What is A Perfect Jane?
A Perfect Jane is a shoe brand based in the Netherlands. It was started during the COVID-19 pandemic by Suzanne Harper, who ran a crowdfunding campaign and sold her first shoes in July 2021.
Products and positioning
The brand makes vegan boots and shoes. Each has a bright green sole with a leaf-vein footprint, and the slogan is Walking on Plants. The upper is apple leather, made by grinding apple pulp into a raw fibre and mixing it with liquid recycled PET, so the brand says its boots are not made of plastic even though recycled PET is part of the material.
Production
The apple leather comes from a factory in Bolzano, Italy, where the material is supplied by Frumat, founded by Hannes Parth. The process uses apples that fall from trees before ripening and would otherwise rot.
Recognition
The company won the Breda StartUp Award in 2021 and is PETA-Approved Vegan certified. Harper has said she wants the brand to become a well-known vegan shoe label worldwide within five years.
