Asolo is an Italian outdoor footwear brand founded in 1975 by Giancarlo Tanzi and run by the Zanatta family since 1998. It makes mountaineering, hiking and backpacking boots from its base in Nervesa della Battaglia near Treviso.

Asolo is an Italian maker of mountain and hiking footwear, named after a town in north east Italy near Venice. It is a family business run by the Zanatta family, with headquarters in Nervesa della Battaglia in the province of Treviso.

History

Giancarlo Tanzi founded Asolo in 1975 and launched the Scout, the first mountain boot to combine leather and Cordura. In 1980 the brand introduced the first Gore-Tex lined mountain boot. The Zanatta family, whose shoemaking roots go back to a repair shop opened by Oreste Zanatta in 1946, acquired the brand in 1998 and opened a factory in Sibiu, Romania. A North American subsidiary followed in 1999, the new headquarters in 2000 and a German subsidiary in Munich in 2016. Asolo owned the UK brand Lowe Alpine from 2002 to 2010.

Products and positioning

The range covers alpine, backpacking, hiking, winter hiking and urban outdoor footwear, plus wide fit, tactical and junior hiking models. Well known styles include the Scout, Falcon GV, Drifter GV, Eiger GV, Athena and Supertrek GTX. The brand also offers a resoling service, digitised in 2021.
