What is Claudie Pierlot?

Claudie Pierlot is a French ready-to-wear brand for women. It describes itself as Parisian, feminine and urban, and SMCP sums up its style as a charming and ingenious wardrobe. It is part of SMCP, alongside Sandro, Maje and Fursac.

History

The designer Claudie Pierlot, born in Troyes in 1947, trained in styling and pattern-making and worked for houses including Dorothée Bis before spending about a decade designing for René Derhy. With Derhy's backing she launched her own label in 1984. She was known for her ambition to dress the petite women of Paris, and opened boutiques on Rue Montmartre, Rue du 29 Juillet and Rue du Vieux-Colombier. The Vieux-Colombier shop remains the brand's historic flagship.

In early 2009, knowing she was ill, she sold the company to the shareholders of Sandro and Maje. She died the same month. The brand became part of SMCP when the group was formed in 2010, and moved with it through the KKR and Shandong Ruyi eras and the 2017 stock market listing. Since November 2025 a sale process for up to 51.2% of SMCP's capital has been under way.

Products and positioning

Claudie Pierlot offers a premium contemporary wardrobe with a slightly preppy, playful character:

  • Dresses, blouses and skirts
  • Tailored jackets, coats and knitwear
  • Shoes, bags and accessories

Business model and distribution

The brand is sold through own boutiques, department store corners, outlets and e-commerce. It is concentrated in France: FashionNetwork reported that Claudie Pierlot and Fursac, both mainly present in the French market, saw combined sales fall by more than 11% in the second quarter of 2026, as SMCP closed department store corners and unprofitable stores.

Why it matters

Claudie Pierlot shows how a designer-founded label can live on inside a multi-brand group. Its future positioning within SMCP, and the group's change of ownership, will determine whether it follows Sandro and Maje onto the international stage.
