What is Cyrillus?
Cyrillus is a French ready-to-wear brand for the whole family: women, men, girls, boys and babies, with home linen and decor. The style is classic and timeless.
History
Danielle Telinge founded Cyrillus in 1977 after leaving a job as a flight attendant to look after her three children. It began with pyjamas and nightwear sold by mail order and was named after her son Cyril. In 1981 the catalogue grew to 20 pages, adding women's and men's clothing, and the first two Paris boutiques opened.
La Redoute acquired Cyrillus in 1984, and a Belgian subsidiary in 1991 marked the start of exports. In 2006 designer Éric Bergère joined, and the brand added maternity wear, furniture and decor, with baby collections following in 2007.
Ownership
Cyrillus was sold in March 2013 together with Vertbaudet to Alpha Private Equity 6 for 119 million euros. In September 2018 the fund put it up for sale again. In 2021 MGA Paris and the fund Alandia Industries acquired the company, and it remains part of MGA Paris according to French reference pages.
Business model and distribution
The brand sells online worldwide and through more than 40 stores in France. In January 2018 it launched Seconde Histoire, a peer-to-peer resale site. A 2020 figure of 337 employees is cited in a reference page.
Why it matters
Cyrillus is a long-standing French family brand that moved from catalogue to stores to online and resale. Its ownership path, from La Redoute through private equity to MGA Paris, is a useful example of how heritage mail-order brands have been repositioned.
