What is Eagle Creek?
Eagle Creek is a US maker of luggage and travel accessories, founded in 1975 by Steve and Nona Barker. The brand is now headquartered in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.
History
The Barkers started out in the San Jacinto Mountains of California, running a shop that sold custom mountain packs, and then set up a small manufacturing facility in Solana Beach. Eagle Creek grew into a recognised name in adventure travel gear.
In January 2007 the company was acquired by VF Outdoor, a subsidiary of VF Corporation. In June 2021 VF announced it would retire the brand, but in September 2021 Travis Campbell, previously VF's president of emerging brands, acquired Eagle Creek with all its assets and liabilities, keeping it alive as an independent brand. Eagle Creek marked its 50th anniversary in 2025.
Products and positioning
Eagle Creek designs luggage, travel packs and packing accessories aimed at travellers who want durable, organised kit for trips ranging from city breaks to adventure travel.
Why it matters
Eagle Creek is an example of a heritage outdoor brand rescued from a corporate portfolio and relaunched independently, a model increasingly seen in the outdoor and travel goods sector.
