What is Frederique Constant?
Frederique Constant is a Swiss watch company headquartered in Plan-les-Ouates, in the canton of Geneva. It was founded in 1988 by Dutch couple Peter Constant Stas and Aletta Stas-Bax.
History
The name honours the founders' great-grandparents, Frédérique Schreiner and Constant Stas, who founded a watch dial company in 1904. In 2002 the company acquired Alpina, a Swiss sports watch maker dating back to 1883, and it later added the manufacture Ateliers deMonaco. Together these form the Frederique Constant Group, which was acquired by Japan's Citizen Watch in 2016.
Products and positioning
Frederique Constant offers Swiss mechanical watches at accessible prices for the category. Alongside its mainstream line using Sellita-based movements, it has developed more than 30 in-house manufacture movements.
- Classic dress watches
- Manufacture models with in-house calibres

Why it matters
The brand is often cited as a gateway into Swiss mechanical watchmaking and as a relatively young company that built its own movement manufacture.
