What is Jacquemus?
Jacquemus is a Paris based designer brand for women and men, known for sun drenched references to the south of France, sculptural tailoring and small statement bags such as the Chiquito. It has become one of the most visible independent French brands, with strong engagement on social media.
History
Simon Porte Jacquemus started the label at about the age of 20, with Wikipedia listing it as active from 2009. He showed at Paris Fashion Week from 2012, designed a collection for La Redoute in 2014 and received the LVMH Prize Special Jury Prize in 2015. Footwear followed in 2017 and menswear in 2019, when the brand also staged a tenth anniversary show in a lavender field in Provence. A partnership with Nike was announced in 2022, and the Fall 2023 collection was presented at the Palace of Versailles.
Puig bought around 10 percent of the company around 2021, but the planned beauty venture was dropped and Jacquemus bought the stake back. In February 2025 L'Oréal announced a beauty partnership together with a minority investment in the brand.

Why it matters
Jacquemus is a leading case of an independent brand built largely through image, storytelling and social media, and of a founder keeping control while bringing in a strategic partner for a new category.
