What is Kenvelo?
Kenvelo is a casual fashion brand and store chain from the Czech Republic. It traces its origins to CTC Sportwear, a Prague company founded in December 1991 by Dany Himi and Michael Saul, which was renamed Kenvelo CZ in June 1999.
History
Before Kenvelo, Himi built a chain of clothing stores called Himi's Jeans. He became sole owner of the company a few months after its founding. The name Kenvelo was proposed by a later shareholder and means "yes and no" in Hebrew.
Distribution
Kenvelo grew into an international retail network with around 270 stores in 18 countries, including:
- Czech Republic, Slovakia and Croatia
- Romania, Bulgaria and Serbia
- Austria, Germany and the United Kingdom
- The Baltic states, Ukraine and Malaysia
Products and positioning
The brand offers everyday casual clothing for a young audience at mid-market prices, sold mainly through its own branded stores in shopping centres.
Why it matters
Kenvelo is one of the few fashion retailers founded in post-1989 Czechoslovakia that expanded across Central and Eastern Europe, making it a reference point for the region's home-grown high street.
