The company says it was founded in Vienna in 1872 by Bernhard Strakosch as B. Strakosch & Sohn, later led by his son Otto. Humanic AG was the parent company from 1954, and the business was renamed Legero Schuhfabrik GesmbH in 1989. Stefan Stolitzka has managed the company since 1991 and took over 100 per cent in 1994. ara AG became a minority shareholder in 1997. The company moved from Vienna to Styria in 1993.
