History
The first store opened in 1972 on Avenida Marqués de Pickman in Seville's Ciudad Jardín district. It was founded by Ángel Aguaded Toscano, a former national police officer, and his wife Encarnación Santos de la Torre, who converted part of a family business into a women's shoe shop. The brand is named after their daughter, María de la Paz.
Marypaz grew into an international chain, expanding into Portugal through the acquisition of a local chain in 2011 and opening stores in markets such as Morocco, Tunisia and Malta. The company has since changed ownership several times; entrepreneur Álvaro Pellón later acquired the brand and its operating unit together with the Aguaded family, and the business has reorganised its Portuguese operations while exploring other European markets.
