Mexx is a fashion brand from the Netherlands offering womenswear, menswear and footwear. It is today sold mainly through its own web shop and wholesale partners.
History
Rattan Chadha founded Mexx in 1986 by merging his Moustache (men's) and Emmanuelle (women's) brands. The brand grew into a European name and at its peak had stores in more than 50 countries, producing about 40 million pieces and ranking among Europe's top thirty brands in 2010. In 2008 the head office moved to the former European head office of Nissan in Amsterdam Riekerpolder.
Ownership
Ownership has changed repeatedly. Chadha owned the brand until 2001, when it was bought by the American group Liz Claiborne. In autumn 2011 it was sold to a joint venture with the Gores Group. Three holding companies were declared bankrupt in December 2014, and the Turkish firm Eroğlu Holding bought the brand in February 2015. In 2017 it returned to Dutch ownership under RNF Holding. In October 2024 a sale from NFG Group to HVEG Fashion Group was announced, and HVEG completed its purchase of RNF Group in December 2024, so HVEG Fashion Group is the current owner according to the source consulted.
Business model and distribution
Mexx now sells online in country-specific shops with free shipping above €50, next-day delivery on early orders and 30-day returns, and it lists a B2B dealers page. No physical stores are mentioned on its site. The brand has also returned to Canada through a distribution deal with Walmart Canada covering clothing, shoes and home accents. Design has been run from an office in Drunen since the 2021 collection.
