What is Navyboot?
Navyboot is a Swiss footwear brand founded in Zurich in 1991 by Bruno Bencivenga. It began with leather goods such as shoes, belts and bags and grew into a broader lifestyle label.
History
The brand opened its first own store at Zurich's Bellevue in 2001. Around 2006 it operated roughly 40 stores in Switzerland. The Bencivenga family owned the business until 2008, when it passed to Philippe Gaydoul's Gaydoul Group; about ten years later it moved to Globus. Store closures followed, and the last standalone Navyboot stores closed in 2021.
In August 2026 the brand returned under a licence held by Ochsner Shoes, a Deichmann subsidiary.
Products and positioning
Over the years the range extended beyond shoes into underwear, clothing, bags, eyewear and perfume. The relaunch collection focuses on footwear with a clean, understated design language:
- About 60 women's and men's shoe styles
- Loafers, classic business shoes and sneakers, including selected Goodyear-welted models
- Eight women's bags
- Production in Spain and Portugal
Distribution
Since 26 August 2026 the collection has been sold exclusively through Ochsner Shoes, in around 30 stores across Switzerland and online.
Why it matters
Navyboot is a well known Swiss shoe name whose return shows how a heritage label can be revived through a licence with a large footwear retailer rather than its own store network.
