What is Romika?
Romika is a German shoe brand offering footwear for women, men and children, including the children's line Romikids. The name is formed from the initials of its three founders: Rollmann, Michael and Kaufmann.
History
The company was founded in late 1921 by Hans Rollmann, Carl Michael and Karl Kaufmann in Gusterath in the Ruwer valley near Trier. During the Nazi era the Rollmann family was persecuted and lost its property, and the works were taken into new ownership. Today the company is Romika GmbH, based in Trier.
For many years the brand belonged to the Josef Seibel group of Hauenstein. In December 2019 Josef Seibel agreed to sell the Romika trademark rights for all European countries, including Romikids, to Deichmann SE of Essen, effective 1 January 2020. Josef Seibel delivered the spring and summer 2020 collection, after which Deichmann took over development and sales from autumn and winter 2020.
