The story begins in the summer of 1885, when master shoemaker Jakob Sigle opened a workshop in Kornwestheim. Leather trader Max Levi became his partner, and Rudolf Moos from Berlin joined in 1903. The fire salamander was registered as a trademark in 1899, and the company SALAMANDER Schuhgesellschaft GmbH was founded in 1905.
In 2023 the brand was acquired by AstorMueller, the footwear company headquartered in Hünenberg, Switzerland, which describes SALAMANDER as a prestigious European footwear brand. The group also owns TT. BAGATT and holds the global shoe licence for bugatti.
