What is Story Wear?
Story Wear is a zero-waste fashion brand from Taiwan, founded by Chen Guan-bai, who studied fashion management in the UK before returning to Taiwan to launch the label. It describes its work as transforming textile waste into timeless, wearable art.
Products and positioning
The brand uses upcycling, circular design and a social enterprise model. Garments are made from discarded denim, deadstock fabrics and surplus materials, and the range includes bags, shirts, casual jackets, denim, coats, blazers and bomber jackets.
Pieces are handmade with social welfare partners, including single mothers, Indigenous artisans and people with disabilities. Each garment carries an identity card tag recording who made it and how long it took.
Distribution
In 2024 the founders opened House of Story Wear in the Dadaocheng district of Taipei, described as Taiwan's first sustainable department store. It occupies two floors, carries more than 30 domestic and international sustainable brands, and also offers rental of designer clothing. The brand has presented at the Pitti Immagine Uomo trade fair.
Why it matters
Story Wear links circular design with social inclusion and has extended from a label into a retail space for other sustainable brands.
