What is Stutterheim?
Stutterheim is a Swedish rainwear brand based on Södermalm in Stockholm. It was founded by Alexander Stutterheim, a former advertising copywriter at the agency Lowe Brindfors, who felt that few brands were making good raincoats.
History
The brand started with a very small range: in 2012 it offered only four raincoat designs. Early on, marketing director Johan Loman, who has been with the brand since the start, suggested that each coat be numbered and signed by the person who stitched it, a detail that became part of the brand's identity. Production began in Sweden but moved to a supplier in Poland once demand outgrew a small Swedish factory; the team visits regularly for production and development.
Products and positioning
Stutterheim's stated goal is to make protective, good looking rainwear that lasts, and it deliberately avoids trend driven products. Raincoats remain the core, and the range has expanded into further outerwear styles such as bomber, biker inspired and double breasted jackets and a long trench. New products are released twice a year.
Why it matters
Stutterheim turned a functional, often overlooked category into a design statement, showing how a single product focus and craft details such as signed coats can build a recognisable outerwear brand.
