What is Victoria?
Victoria is a Spanish footwear brand rooted in La Rioja, associated above all with canvas sneakers that are cut, sewn and finished largely by hand. It is a heritage label in the casual footwear market, and the brand describes its shoes as made in Spain.
History
According to Spanish business press, the brand was founded in 1915 by Gregorio Jimenez, and it is said to take its name from his first love. Sources differ slightly on the exact town of origin: one gives Cervera del Rio Alhama, while another places the brand in Arnedo, both in La Rioja.
Around the turn of the millennium the brand came under Calzados Nuevo Milenio, which El Independiente describes as its parent company since the early 2000s, when three footwear-industry businesspeople acquired it to revive it. Modaes dates the purchase of Nuevo Milenio to 1999 and reported in February 2026 that the company was reorganising its corporate structure by creating a new subsidiary.
Products and positioning
The range is built around canvas and retro sneakers. Models highlighted in the press include the Inglesa, which dates to the 1950s and uses cotton canvas with natural rubber, and a canvas platform sneaker launched in 1992 and named after Barcelona. The brand also issues retro sneakers inspired by 1980s designs. After natural rubber became scarce in the post-war period, the company reportedly used recycled tyres for soles.
Business model and distribution
Victoria sells mainly through retailers abroad. El Independiente reports that around 75 per cent of output is exported to 54 markets, including France, Italy, the UK, Portugal, South Korea and the United States. The brand also operates its own online presence. Modaes reported in 2026 that the company continues to grow while profitability has stalled.
Why it matters
Victoria is one of the better-known Spanish sneaker names abroad and an example of a heritage footwear maker that has revived an old brand around simple, hand-finished canvas shoes and an export-led model.
