What is White Stuff?
White Stuff is a London based fashion and lifestyle brand selling clothing for women, men and children alongside accessories, homeware and gifts. Since October 2024 it has been owned by TFG London, part of the South African retail group The Foschini Group.
History
The business was started in 1985 by friends and keen skiers George Treves and Sean Thomas, who sold printed T-shirts and sweatshirts to skiers in Val d'Isère, France, under the name Boys from the White Stuff. They sold from a suitcase in hotels and bars before opening the first London store in Clapham in 1991.
Distribution
As of October 2024 White Stuff operated 113 stores and 46 concessions in the UK, plus six stores and 25 concessions in Europe. Alongside its own shops and website, the brand has sold through catalogues and through partners including John Lewis, House of Fraser, Marks and Spencer and Karstadt in Germany.
Why it matters
White Stuff combines a broad high street store estate with wholesale and concession partnerships. The White Stuff Foundation, set up in 2010 and funded by 1% of profits, supports small charities in the UK and abroad.
