What is ZSIGMOND?
ZSIGMOND is a menswear label from Hungary, established in 2014, that sets out to preserve Hungarian traditions and translate them into timeless collections. Its motto is "Inhale the past, exhale the future." Silhouettes are loose but angular, and the brand builds its identity around sustainability and rural heritage.
Products and positioning
The brand focuses mainly on made-to-order pieces to limit excess stock. Garments are produced ethically in the Hungarian countryside, while motifs are screen-printed by hand in Budapest. Materials include certified European fabrics, dead-stock from luxury houses and recycled fabrics, and plastic trims are replaced with horn buttons and zip pullers.
- Seasonal menswear collections such as AW21 OBSCURE
- REMADE: one-of-a-kind pieces made from decades-old fabrics, including bomber jackets cut from vintage velvet headscarves
- Hats and accessories made from leftover fabric
Collaborations have included work with tattoo artist Áron Dimén, hatmaker Zsófi Vecsei and Czech artist Makeky Mlouha. Pieces from its 2018 to 2020 collections are held by the Museum of Applied Arts in Budapest.
Distribution
ZSIGMOND sells through its own online store and has been stocked by retailers in Japan, Germany, Canada, Spain and Belgium, as well as several online stores.
