Who is Jonathan Anderson?
Jonathan Anderson is a Northern Irish fashion designer and one of the most sought after creative directors of his generation. He studied at the London College of Fashion and is known for genderless silhouettes and skilful work with texture and volume. He was named British designer of the year in both 2023 and 2024.
Career
Anderson launched his own label, JW Anderson, in 2008, starting with menswear before adding women's ready to wear. In 2013 he was appointed creative director of the LVMH owned Spanish house Loewe. Over just over a decade there he reshaped the brand around craft, art and distinctive accessories, and Loewe's revenue more than quadrupled to an estimated 1.5 billion euros, according to FashionNetwork.
In April 2025 Dior named him creative director of Dior Men, succeeding Kim Jones, who left at the end of January 2025. On 2 June 2025 his role was expanded to cover Dior womenswear and haute couture as well, bringing all of the house's collections under one creative director.
- 2008: founds JW Anderson
- 2013 to 2025: creative director of Loewe
- April 2025: creative director of Dior Men
- June 2025: creative director of Dior womenswear and haute couture
- Ongoing: JW Anderson and a collaboration with Uniqlo
His first Dior Men show took place in June 2025, his first womenswear collection in October 2025 and his first haute couture show in January 2026.
Influence on the fashion business
Anderson's tenure at Loewe is widely cited as a case study in how a heritage house can be repositioned through a strong creative point of view, a focus on hero accessories and engagement with art and craft. His move to Dior, one of LVMH's most important brands, reflects the growing trend of a single creative director overseeing all product categories of a house. Running Dior, his own label and a mass market collaboration at the same time also illustrates how designers now work across very different price points and business models.
Why it matters
As the creative head of Dior, Jonathan Anderson now shapes one of the largest and most visible brands in luxury. His results at Loewe give the industry a benchmark for creative led growth, and his work at Dior will be watched closely as a test of whether that model can be repeated at much greater scale.
