What is 8848 Altitude?

8848 Altitude is a Swedish skiwear and outdoor brand, operated as 8848 Altitude AB. It started as a small side project by a group of friends and designers and went full-time around the turn of the millennium. It was rebranded in 2017, and CEO Magnus Berggren founded it and still leads its design department.

Products and positioning

The brand makes high-end technical winter sportswear for women, men and children, including jackets, ski trousers, base layers and hats. A trade feature describes a recent collection drawing on quiet luxury, with colours such as white, navy, beige, fiery red and Hortensia Blue, and an increasing use of recycled polyester and nylon.

Ownership

In December 2025 the Dutch company Protest Sportswear announced that it was acquiring the brand, describing the deal as a logical strategic expansion in technical winter sportswear. The brand rights transfer to Protest. The autumn and winter 2026 collection, designed by the Swedish team, is to be sold through both companies' channels, and from autumn and winter 2027 Protest's own team will design the collection.

Why it matters

The acquisition shows consolidation in premium technical skiwear, where small Nordic labels are joining larger sportswear groups.
