What is Aliétte?
Aliétte is a designer womenswear label created by Jason Rembert, a celebrity stylist and designer. The brand presents its collections at New York Fashion Week.
History
Rembert began considering a collection in 2018 and debuted Aliétte in 2019. The name honours his late mother, Louisanne Aliétte, and his daughter, Harper Aliétte, and the collections are inspired by the women in his life. The debut collection drew on Martinique, where much of his family comes from. Shortly after launch, Issa Rae wore an Aliétte look on the red carpet of the Critics' Choice Awards.
Products and positioning
Aliétte focuses on womenswear with a strong eveningwear and red carpet sensibility. Its Spring 2023 collection, shown in New York in September 2022 after a three year break from the runway, centred on the theme of flowers and included:
- A strapless tangerine taffeta gown with a train
- A sequined suit with a fringed hem
- A beaded catsuit and a beaded, embroidered tunic
- A floral silk charmeuse column and a techno material anorak
Why it matters
Aliétte is an example of a stylist turned designer translating red carpet experience into his own label. Coverage in Essence, Fashionista and The Impression has made it one of the visible Black owned designer brands on the New York calendar.
