Callaghan is a Spanish adult footwear brand belonging to the Hergar Group, a family-run company with its roots in Arnedo, in the La Rioja region. The group was founded in 1968 by Basilio Garcia Perez-Aradros, and his son Basilio García is its CEO.
History
According to a 2015 World Footwear interview with the CEO, the group launched the Tanke brand in 1978, based on hand-sewn waterproof leather hunting boots. It created the Callaghan brand in 1987 and acquired the children's brand Gorilla in 1991. In 2004 it launched the patented Callaghan Adaptaction technology, described as the shoe that conforms to the foot.
Distribution
At the time of the interview, Callaghan exported about 30% of its production. China was a major market, where the brand had more than 30 stores. Italy was its main market, the company was looking for a US distributor and it was starting in France.
