History
Jacob Golomb founded the company in 1910 in The Bronx at the age of 17, initially making long-lasting swimwear. It began making boxing gear in 1917 after a request from Jack Dempsey. After Golomb's death his son Daniel led the company, Ben Nadorf bought 50% in 1958 and became sole owner in 1995, and George Horowitz's Active Apparel Group acquired it in 2000. Benjamin Golomb later left and founded Benlee Sporting Goods.
Ownership
Sports Direct acquired Everlast Worldwide in 2007. Wikipedia names Frasers Group, the British group that owns Sports Direct, as the parent in 2026.
Business model and distribution
- Manufacturing: boxing gear is made in Moberly, Missouri, and other products are made outside the US by licensees.
