What is Haflinger?
Haflinger makes house and leisure shoes from natural materials. The main headquarters is in Goslar, in the Northwest Harz region of Germany.
History
The company traces its origins to 1898, when master haberdasher Emil Otto Sr. founded a textile craft business in Goslar, known for cords and trimmings. It soon began making premium yarn socks. The cabin slipper story began in 1955, when Emil Otto, great-grandfather of the current managing director, gave felted virgin wool socks a sturdy leather sole after snow soaked his socks on a ski trip in Austria.
Before the Haflinger name existed, the company made slippers for other manufacturers, who sold them under their own brands. The Haflinger brand was created in 1988 by Gerd Otto Senior with his children, named after the Haflinger mountain horse.
Products and positioning
The range includes cabin slippers, slippers, clogs, sandals, sneakers, outdoor boots, and children's and baby shoes. Accessories include felt bags, placemats and removable footbeds. The company describes its slippers as made with boiled wool technology.
