What is Jennyfer?

Jennyfer is a French fashion retailer of affordable womenswear for young women. It is operated by the company Stock J Boutique Jennyfer.

History

The brand was founded in 1984 in Saint-Denis by Gérard Depagniat and David Tordjman. International expansion began in 2000 with a flagship in Brussels, followed by stores in Belgium, Italy and Spain. In 2005 Marc and Laurent Grosman, the founders of Célio, took over the struggling brand. Sébastien Bismuth later became president, having previously led the lingerie brand Undiz. In 2018 the brand was renamed Don't Call Me Jennyfer after a buyout.

Receivership and new owner

In 2023 the company entered receivership, citing sudden cost increases and high inflation. The Bobigny commercial court approved a continuity plan with a €15 million investment and a new shareholder, the Franco-Chinese group Sinoproud. A social plan affecting 75 employees was announced in late 2023. In 2024 the brand reverted to the name Jennyfer with a new visual identity. The source consulted has no information on 2025 or 2026 changes, so the current position should be checked.

Business model and distribution

In 2018 Jennyfer had 550 stores worldwide, 348 of them in France, of which 198 were company-operated. By 2023 it had 220 stores in France with 1,112 employees, which shows how far the estate has contracted. The sources do not describe its online business in detail.

Why it matters

Jennyfer is a case study in how French teen fashion chains have been squeezed by inflation, online fast fashion and rent costs, and how receivership plans bring in new owners.
