What is Krayon?
Krayon is an independent Swiss watch brand based in Neuchâtel. It was created by husband and wife Rémi Maillat, a micro technology engineer, and Fei, an applied mechanical engineer, who remain its sole owners.
Products and positioning
Krayon specialises in a single, highly complex complication: the mechanical display of sunrise and sunset times. Its watches show these times for a preset location, usually the owner's home town, on a disc beside a 24 hour ring, with a month and date sub dial at six o'clock.
- Everywhere, the first creation, with a sunrise and sunset mechanism of 595 components; it won the GPHG Innovation Prize in 2018
- Anywhere, powered by calibre C030 with 432 components and a 72 hour power reserve, adjustable to any location on Earth
- Anywhere Arborea, a Métiers d'Art limited edition of 15 pieces in a 39 mm platinum case inspired by Henri Rousseau
Production is extremely limited and pieces sit at the top end of haute horlogerie pricing, with many reserved by existing clients.
Why it matters
Krayon is one of the few young independent manufactures to have created a genuinely new astronomical complication, illustrating the role of small engineering led houses in Swiss watch innovation.
