What is Lodenfrey?
Lodenfrey is a family-owned fashion business in Munich, Germany, known for loden cloth, loden coats and traditional Bavarian clothing. Its flagship is a six-storey fashion house on Maffeistrasse, a site the family has owned since 1902.
History
Johann Georg Frey founded the company in 1842. The first shop opened on Schrannenplatz in 1850, and in 1855 the firm developed a water-repellent loden that won a gold medal at the Paris World Fair. Knitted loden followed in 1872, and a first catalogue was sent worldwide in 1880. Manufacturing and retail were later separated, and the online shop launched in 2010. In 2013 a renovation expanded the store to 7,500 square metres. The business is run by the fifth and sixth generations of the founding family, with Markus Höhn as managing partner since 2005.
