What is London Fog?
London Fog is a heritage American outerwear brand best known for trench coats and raincoats. Despite its name, it was founded in the United States, as the Londontown Manufacturing Company, by company president Israel Myers in 1922 to 1923.
History
Originally a family business in Baltimore, the company went public in the 1960s and was later acquired by Interco. Its headquarters moved to Eldersburg, Maryland, in 1976, and later to Seattle in 2000. After financial restructurings in the 1990s, Iconix Brand Group acquired the brand in 2006, while the outerwear operation was sold to the Herman Kay Company.
Products and positioning
Beyond trench coats, raincoats, jackets and parkas, the brand extends through licensing into handbags, umbrellas, luggage, sleepwear, footwear, hosiery, eyewear, watches and homeware. Sub-labels have included F.O.G. and London Fog Heritage.
Distribution
London Fog products are sold through a broad network of retailers, including Macy's, Nordstrom, Hudson's Bay, Kohl's and Boscov's, and the brand has operated standalone stores in China.
