What is Marol?
Marol is a men's shirt company from Bologna, Italy, founded in 1959. Its shirts follow the Northern Italian shirtmaking tradition and are designed and made in the company's own atelier outside the city, with a workshop team of around 25 to 30 people.
History
Marol was built as a family business and was later run by the founders' daughter, Manuela Vignudelli. In 2016 commodities trader Bo Yang bought into the company, which then worked with a creative team that has included Canadian writer Pedro Mendes.
Products and positioning
Marol shirts are offered at four levels of service:
- Ready-to-wear
- Made to order in standard sizes
- Made to measure from a block
- Bespoke, with an individual pattern and fittings
Collections have been organised into lines for dress, off-duty, statement and evening wear, and the house has also made pyjama shirts and a one-piece collar shirt. A partnership with Sartoria Peluso extended the offer to tailored suits and separates.
Distribution
Beyond its Bologna base, Marol meets clients at regular trunk shows in London and has been stocked by specialist menswear retailers.
Why it matters
Marol is one of the established names in Italian shirtmaking, keeping production in its own Bologna workshop.
