What is Millie's?
Millie's is a women's footwear and handbag brand from Hong Kong. Since 2007 its business in mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau has belonged to Belle International, the Shenzhen-based footwear group, where it is one of the group's own women's shoe brands alongside Staccato and Joy&Peace.
History
The brand was founded by Alan Lau Tin-chao, who named the business after his wife, Millie Woo. The founders had traded in Shanghai before moving to Hong Kong after 1949, and the original store and factory were on Hanoi Road in Tsim Sha Tsui. By the 1970s Millie's was described as the leading handbag and shoe manufacturer and retailer in Hong Kong. Belle International acquired the China, Hong Kong and Macau business in 2007.
Products and positioning
Millie's makes ladies' shoes and handbags. Within Belle's portfolio its women's brands together hold a large share of the mid-priced women's shoe segment in China.
Distribution
The brand sells through a large network of its own stores across Hong Kong, Macau and mainland China.
Why it matters
Millie's is one of Hong Kong's heritage footwear names, and its absorption into Belle illustrates how China's largest shoe retailer built a multi-brand women's footwear portfolio.
