What is Mistral?
Mistral is one of the pioneering brands of windsurfing and today presents itself as a holistic water sports lifestyle brand. Since its acquisition by NMG (Nederlands MerkGoed), a Dutch brand equity investor based in Haarlem, it has been fully owned by NMG.
History
Mistral AG was officially founded in October 1976 by Peter Brockhaus, a retailer of the original Windsurfer, and Heinz Bader of the plastics maker Scobalit, who held equal stakes. The brand launched in 1977 at the Dusseldorf Boat Show with its first board, the Superwind, followed by competition boards. Clothing was part of the story from the start: the launch collection included Mistral Sportswear alongside hardware and accessories.
