Poshmark was founded in May 2011 by Manish Chandra, Tracy Sun, Chetan Pungaliya and Gautam Golwala, who say they were inspired by the potential of the iPhone 4 to connect people. It listed on Nasdaq under POSH in January 2021. In October 2022 Naver agreed to acquire it for an enterprise value of 1.2 billion US dollars, and the deal closed in January 2023.

The platform is a peer to peer marketplace operating through an app and website. Individual sellers list items, and the company says it has paid out 8 billion US dollars in seller earnings.
