What is Vince?
Vince is a New York-based fashion brand offering women's and men's ready-to-wear, footwear and accessories. It is known for understated luxury basics such as cashmere knitwear, soft tailoring and relaxed silhouettes with a Californian sensibility.
History
The brand was founded in 2002 by Rea Laccone and Christopher LaPolice and was sold to Kellwood Company in 2006. Vince Holding Corp. later became a listed company. In 2023 Authentic Brands Group acquired a majority of the Vince intellectual property, with the operating company holding a minority interest and running the brand under licence from ABG Vince.
In January 2025 P180, a new venture focused on luxury apparel, acquired the majority stake of Sun Capital affiliates, giving it about 65% of the common stock. Brendan Hoffman, who had previously led Vince for five years, returned as chief executive in February 2025. The shares moved from the NYSE to Nasdaq in October 2025.
Products and positioning
Vince sits in the premium contemporary segment. Its offer centres on:
- Cashmere and other knitwear
- Silk blouses, dresses and soft tailoring
- T-shirts and elevated basics
- Footwear and accessories
- A men's ready-to-wear line
Business model and distribution
According to the company, Vince operates 44 full-price stores, 14 outlet stores and its website, vince.com, and sells through premium wholesale partners worldwide, including department stores. The licence agreement with Authentic means that brand expansion into new categories and markets is subject to approval rights held by ABG Vince.
Why it matters
Vince is an instructive case of a split ownership model in fashion, where a brand management company owns most of the intellectual property while a separately listed operator designs, sells and runs the stores. Its recovery under P180 will show how this model works for a premium American label.
