What is Vinted?

Vinted is an online second-hand marketplace. Its website describes one community, thousands of brands and a whole lot of second-hand style, and lets users list items showing brand, condition, size and price.

History and ownership

According to Wikipedia, Vinted was founded in 2008 in Vilnius, Lithuania, by Milda Mitkute and Justas Janauskas, and has offices in Germany and the Netherlands. It is private. Lightspeed Venture Partners led a 2019 funding round, and a secondary share sale of 880 million euros in April 2026 reportedly valued the company at 8 billion euros. Wikipedia does not name a majority owner. Thomas Plantenga, who joined in 2016 as a strategy consultant, is chief executive.

Business model and distribution

Vinted operates an ecosystem around the marketplace, including Vinted Go for logistics and shipping, Vinted Pay for in-app payments and Vinted Ventures as an investment arm. Displayed prices include a Vinted fee, which the site illustrates with a 6 dollar item shown at 7 dollars including the fee. Wikipedia reports operations in more than 26 markets, with launches planned in Ireland, Greece, Latvia, Slovenia and Estonia. Categories include women, men, kids, designer, home, electronics, books and sports, and the site lists Coach, Nike, Lululemon, Apple, Louis Vuitton and Zara among its best-selling brands.

Financial position

Wikipedia reports 2025 revenue of 1.1 billion euros and net income of 62 million euros.

Why it matters

Vinted has become a central reference for consumer-to-consumer fashion resale in Europe, and its owned logistics and payments layers show how marketplaces extend into services.
